Tangkuban Perahu Crater

Tangkuban Perahu.

Surprisingly I’ve never been to this place before, even I lived in the city nearby  years ago! But hey, many people also don’t visit their backyard tourist destination I guess. Like those who live in Jakarta but never visited Monas (emm, so do I), live in Jogja but never been to Kidul mountain. I spent a few years trough University time in Bandung, but I was never been to Tangkuban Perahu. So, never mind. There’s always a first time for everything.

It was quite crowded on the day we visited the Crater. In fact, this place already became a favorite destination for the local people who live around Bandung. The car park was also full of private car and busses. Tips : better visit this place during weekday.

There are some craters in Takuban Perahu, but the closest one to the parking ground is Kawah Ratu ( Queen Crater), located just in front of the parking area. No wonder it become a favorite one, huh? It’s time to take thousands of selfie pictures now. And guess what, if you are a foreigner, get ready if someone ask ask: “take picture together, mister” again and again. The locals just love it.

Gue? Kena juga…

Me? Yeah, I also got some too. They seem don’t care even when I talk in bahasa Indonesia to them. Oh well..

Jadilah kami asik sibuk selfie. Sebisa mungkin gue nggak mengeluarkan kata-kata dalam bahasa Indonesia. Nggak mau menghancurakn fantasi mereka.

A crowd of teteh (young women- Sundanesse), suddenly asked for selfie. Yes, selfie is a trend in Asia countries, including Indonesia. This time I tried not to say any words in bahasa. I just don’t want to ruin their happiness.

It’s common in places like this to have a folklore: Once upon a time, there’s a young man named Sangkuriang who fell in love with a beautiful lady Dayang Sumbi. What he didn’t know was he was Dayang Sumbi’s son. Of course Dayang Sumbi didn’t want to marry him. So she made an impossible task: built a lake with a boat in it. Sangkuriang was known as a man with super power. He almost did it when Dayang Sumbi cheated by made a big fire in a distance and told Sangkuriang that the morning has broken. He failed, of course. In his anger he kicked the boat with angry. The boat fly in the air and landed upside down. So that’s became a Tangkuban Perahu (upside down boat) mountain.

Hmmm.. I guess I’m gonna ask Sangkuriang to make me a nice little house. What do you think? 😀
